Asthma Education
Our nurse clinician offers education for new asthma
patients, children and their families, or adults needing
a refresher course about asthma management. A physician’s
order is required.

Baby on Board
St. Mary's Hospital offers Baby on Board, a free class
on infant car seat safety. Attendees will be instructed
in the correct use of child auto restraints, including
proper fit of the car seat in the car and correct
fit of the car seat harness on the baby. Parents can
ask questions. The class is taught by a certified
child passenger safety technician. Class is held on
the Women’s Health Unit (3rd floor). Although
the class is free, advanced registration is required.

Breast Cancer Support Group
This group aims to meet the educational and emotional
needs of current patients and survivors alike. Members
of the St. Mary’s family guide the discussion
and offer support and information.

Breastfeeding Classes
This class, taught by a certified lactation consultant,
is available to pregnant women or mothers who recently
have delivered a baby. The course will demonstrate
proper feeding techniques and provide other valuable
information.

Bright Beginnings
This program offers free developmental screenings
for children from birth to 35 months. Appointments
are required.

Childbirth Education Classes
This class covers topics such as relaxation techniques,
infant care, breast and bottle feeding and immediate
postpartum care.

CPR Courses
Health Care Providers
This class includes training in the automated external
defibrillator, barrier devices, bag-valve mask, CPR,
and relieving foreign body airway obstruction for
adults and children. Class meets in the hospital’s
St. Francis Hall Chapel and lasts 4-4½ hours.

Health Care Providers Renewal Course
Participants must show proof of current card to enroll.
Class meets in the hospital’s St. Francis Hall

Insulin Pump Information/Support Group
This informational meeting is designed to support
patients with diabetes (families also welcome) currently
using or wanting to learn more about insulin pump
therapy. Learn tips and news to improve blood sugar
control. Refreshments provided.

Mammography
Evening Hours
On certain dates, St. Mary's Hospital offers mammography
screenings at later hours. Patients of all area physicians
may have mammograms performed at St. Mary's Hospital,
but they should contact their physician for a written
order prior to having the procedure. Appointments
are necessary.

Mobile Mammography
Mammography screenings are performed in communities
throughout St. Mary's Hospital’s service area.
Patients of all area physicians may have mammograms
performed, but they should contact their physician
for a written order prior to having the procedure.

Chronic Pain Support Group
The support group is for people experiencing chronic
pain. Meetings are typically held the fourth Friday
of each month in the lower level conference room.

Sibling Education Program
For children ages 2-12 who are expecting a new baby
in the family, this program includes a short class
and tour of the women’s health unit, including
the postpartum room and nursery. Registration is required,
and children must be accompanied by an adult. Grandparents
also are encouraged to attend the class as a refresher.

Zonta Teens Club of Streator
The club is for girls in their freshman to senior
year in high school. The girls volunteer throughout
the hospital. They are sponsored by the Zonta Club
of Streator.
